concrete early strength is the ability of concrete to develop a high level of compressive strength in a short time period. This is very useful for a number of different applications such as rapid pavement repairs, full-depth patching and new concrete pavements.

The strength of concrete can be increased by using one or a combination of type III Portland cement, low water to cementitious materials, high freshly mixed concrete, chemical admixtures, supplementary cementitious materials and autoclave curing. These methods will result in a more rapid reaction to hydration which in turn increases the early strength.

Cement to water ratio

The amount of water in a concrete mix determines how strong it will be, but too much can make the concrete unworkable. It also depends on the curing conditions and aggregates used in the mix.

Placticisers

Platicisers are additives that increase the strength of concrete by increasing the space between the cement molecules. They can be formulated into powders or granules.

Sporosarcina pasteurii bacteria

Several bacteria have been used to improve concrete properties, and the bacterium Sporosarcina pasteurii has proven to be a very effective addition. Adding this bacterium into the concrete can significantly reduce the initial setting time and lead to an increase in the compressive strength of concrete.
