polycarboxylic ether is a water-reducing agent used in cement. It is a chemical substance that consists of a monomer or polymer with side chains bonded via amide groups and is used as a cement dispersion, superplasticizer, hydration improver and emulsifier.

In addition, it is used as a corrosion inhibitor in plastics and paints, as an antifouling and hydrophobic additive in adhesives and in coatings for metals, for example, stainless steel. It is also used as a lubricant.

The chemistry of ethers is based on the reaction of hydrocarbon groups (oxazoles, nitroxoles) with oxygen. The resulting compound is an olefin (C20H27O) or an acetylene (C2H5).

Ethers are used in a wide range of industries, including fragrances, perfumery, food processing, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. They are also commonly found in natural products, such as fruits, vegetables, meats, milk, oils and fatty acids.

They are widely used as solvents and extractants for a variety of esters, gums, hydrocarbons, alkaloids, oils, resins, dyes, plastics and paints. They are also used as dewaxing extractants for lubricating oils and in cosmetics.

Biobased processes and polycarboxylate ethers

In technical fields where materials and products are frequently consumed, there is a great demand for biobased raw materials and products. They are derived at least partly from renewable sources, and can be produced in a sustainable and increasingly inexpensive manner. The process of the invention enables the production of polycarboxylate ethers that are at least partly biobased, and is also suitable for preparing polycarboxylate ethers from low molecular weight biobased intermediates.
