About Foaming Agent

Lightweight foamed concrete or CLC is a new kind of cellular lightweight concrete that is manufactured using special formulated foaming agents. It is a type of lightweight concrete with increased strength and stiffness, especially when compared to conventional poured concrete.

Its main use is to make insulated lightweight structural elements such as columns and beams which have low weight but high strength, resistance and insulating properties. It can also be used for the production of lightweight concrete blocks.

Foaming agents are chemicals that release gas from a mixture of liquid to form bubbles. It is very important that the right type of foaming agent is used for this purpose, as it effects the mechanical properties and thermal resistance of concrete in a big way.

The best and most common type of foaming agent is protein-based sodium and potassium salts of fatty acids, such as lauric and myristic acid. They can be derived from animal offal or from vegetable sources.

Another type of foaming agent is a synthetic-enzyme based liquid. These enzymatic liquids have the ability to release gas from water into foam, which can be generated using specialised equipment.

This type of foaming agent is usually used to manufacture cellular lightweight concrete. It has the benefit of reducing the surface tension of the liquid which reduces the energy needed for formation as compared to other types of foaming agents.
